Georgiana Chapman along with partner Keren Craig launched the Marchesa fashion brand in 2004.

Marchesa markets to a high end womenswear clientele and has been worn by a number of famous customers such as Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry, Olivia Wilde and Sandra Bullock. The brand is sold in upper bracket department stores including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and online Net-A-Porter.

The rise to acclaim was not so difficult for Georgina as she was born to a multi-million dollar earning father and later married the famous Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Not to say she is not a very talented designer and an absolutely jaw-dropping beauty, but it helps to have money and influence in your pocket to help you along.

She was born and raised in Richmond, England and attended the Chelsea School of Art and Design. Not long after graduation here rise to fame commenced. Her first collection with Craig brought rave reviews and the Marchesa brand became well known among red carpet posers and award winning actresses. Today Marchesa is considered for such special occasions along with the long time dressing idols like Valentino, Versace, and Chanel. That’s quite an accomplishment for a brand only 9 years of age.

Marchesa collections range from bridal, party dress, to statement Day-Glo. Like so many other designers before her she has realized the importance (and profit) in gaining the average Jo as a customer as well. Georgina has made the business savvy move of establishing a line of dresses that will be sold in the middle market via JCPenney. Pearl by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa will be exclusively sold at JCPenney. The line features affordable special-occasion dresses ranging from $70.00 to $100.00. The name “Pearl” comes from her daughters middle name (India Pearl Weinstein). The collection will be distributed as a 15 piece monthly installment of varying looks.

Downton Abbey Fashion

Do tell me that you’ve been clever enough to watch an episode from this clever drama which is set in Britain back in the early 1900′s. “It’s 1912, and life in the Edwardian country house of Downton Abbey is idyllic and bustling for the Crawley family, aided by their cadre of servants….” PBS. This Masterpiece Classic on PBS is a television touchdown and the fashion could not be any more fabulous! Bravo. Bravo. Bravo.

I must admit that it was my dentist who persuaded me and I owe him less complaining next visit. This drama is absolutely brilliant and you will become absorbed in the life and trials of Lord Grantham and his estate, Downton Abbey. Not only has it provided great entertainment, but it has had other positive effects. My english has improved and people I encounter ask if I am British. If I owned a promenade suit or court dress I would most certainly wear it thus improving my fashionability. I am seriously considering a new rule in the house; making my family “dress” for supper. This drama has even encouraged my cleaning practice around the home. Unfortunately, I do not have a housemaid or cook or valet. . . it is up to me.

Take my advice this time and have a gander at this show. I dare say you will not be sorry.

Billy Reid CFDA Winner

It was only one year ago that Billy Reid became the “dark horse winner” of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award and now, in 2012, the Alabama based designer has won the CFDA award for “Menswear Designer of the Year”.

Billy grew up in Amite, Louisiana and began making clothes out of his grandma’s home. He attended the Art Institute of Dallas and studied Fashion Design and worked through college at Saks Fifth Avenue. He began his own line in 1998 and only 3 years later (2001) won the CFDA award for Best New Menswear Designer for his William Reid line. Unfortunately, one year later his funds ran low as the economy tanked and he had to close up shop. It was at this time that he decided to move to Florence, Alabama and begin working within the antiques market. Billy did not give up on his dream of producing classic, well tailored menswear and in 2004 once again began designing and producing his menswear line in downtown Florence. In 2010 he won the CFDA Fashion Fund Award and today his clothing can be found in his own signature boutiques across the country as well as Bloomingdales, Bergdorf’s, Nordstrom’s, and Neiman Marcus. Billy collaborates with other companies to produce “capsule” lines such as Levi’s Workwear by Billy Reid and he even has his own K-Swiss tennis shoe design. Being an Alabamian myself I just can’t help but give a “holla”…let’s hear it for this southern boy – we’re proud of ‘ya brotha!!!!

Billy has brought recognition to this state and region with his clothing design genius and it isn’t an everyday occurrence that someone from these parts receives such a prestigious award. The annual Council of Fashion Designers Awards is like the Oscars of the fashion world and just last night it has once again honored stand out designers at The Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Billy was not the only honoree. Other awards were given to the following:

Womenswear Designer of the Year Award: Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for the Row
Menswear Designer of the Year Award: Billy Reid
Accessory Designer of the Year Award: Reed Krakoff
Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Womenswear: Joseph Altuzarra
Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Menswear: Phillip Lim
Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Accessory Design: Tabitha Simmons
The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Tommy Hilfiger
The Media Award, in honor of Eugenia Sheppard: Scott Schuman and Garance Doré
The Fashion Icon Award: Johnny Depp
The Founders Award, given in honor of Eleanor Lambert: Andrew Rosen
The International Award: Rei Kawakubo

Bag Lady

Purses, Handbags, Bags…(whatever you choose to call the thing that holds all your stuff) have never been a big deal to me. I know that sounds “anti-fashion” but they’ve always seemed fussy and prissy to me. I’m not much for dressing prissy but I have been known to be fussy. But, alas, yesterday I stumbled, and fell, over these cool bags with a touch of reclaimed western chic from TOTEM SALVAGE out of Texas naturally. Admittedly, I have some cowgirl in me but these sweet things will go with anything I normally wear. No, my dears…probably not with gym shorts and crocs but you wouldn’t find me in that unless I was being tortured. This company also produces furniture and other accessories. Check them out at http://www.totemsalvaged.com.

The products tend to blend vintage fabrics, textures, patterns and materials like leather and hardware to produce this western vintage chic a dicky cool. Hey, I tell ya, combing unusual materials is a true talent and most assuredly a little horse sense never hurt anyone!

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER!!!!

Yeah! …wait I’m not in school anymore. What do I care? I can’t help myself from the memories of what it felt like that last day of school and the next morning when I could SLEEP as long as I wanted and I didn’t have to go SIT all day in a chair and listen to stuff I wasn’t that interested in anyway..(except science and biology and ….oh yeah, I liked gym class. It’s funny how your school days stick with you forever. Some memories are a bit painful but hopefully everyone can remember something fantastic and funny about their school days.

Congratulations kids for muddling through another year..now get out there and ENJOY THE SUMMER!

PS: …and don’t spend all day playing on your smartphone! I suggest finding a new sport to try…ever thought of scuba diving? zip line horror? Just DO It! :)

Alice Cooper and The Muppets? Whaaaaaaaaaaat?????? …hilarious video…..
