Anton Semenov

Born in Bratsk, Russia this artist may very well blow your mind into tomorrow. Attention to detail couldn’t even begin to fill the gap of his obsessive intricacies and hidden surprises tucked away for those that take the time to stop and … well, smell the detail. His call name is Gloom82.

Anton Semenov  has a very unusual and, yes, gloomy voice with his work. But, true surrealism is just that…unusual and thought provoking. His imagination goes far beyond what many would define as creative…it’s like a dream. He lays out warped and layered subject matter that is somewhat like the walking dead but they have something to say. They aren’t ghosts, but rather entities he creates to communicate something that is very real in our world. It’s your job to figure out what that is. I am not sure if many people out there will be able to do that but I can assure you, it is fun to try.

Semenov works by day in an advertising agency designing things like signs and vehicle ads, etc. By night, he wakes the beast of imagination and his hands take him to places far, far away. A land of creatures that could be frightening but mostly they are somewhat translucent messengers. Anton began playing with computer graphics in a serious manner back in 2007 and before that he played with the traditional classics of pen, paper, and paint. Remember those? Okay, for some of us we didn’t get much further than crayons. For Anton drawing was an escape and a voice. He was asked by someone if he got inspiration from any particular place and he replied that of course he did. He said the world around us is abundant with inspiration if everyone would just try to see it. Anton likes to play guitar for a hobby outside of his painting and digital work. I personally hope he gets to quit his day job and do some work for Hollywood. I’m no fan of horror flicks but I can enjoy some of the Tim Burton stuff…I think the two of them could have some fun!

Bravo Anton Semenov!!!!!

Paper Dolls

According to Wikipedia.com, paper dresses were invented by the Scott Paper Company in 1966 as a marketing tool. For one dollar, women could buy the dress and also receive coupons for Scott paper products. Imagine their surprise when over half a million women ordered these dresses in under a year!

I’m not sure I would be comfortable, or trusting, to wear a paper dress out for an evening. What if I spilled my wine, or worse yet, brushed by a candle a bit too close? What if I wanted to sit down? What should I do if I need to go to the potty? But credit to The Scott Paper Company for an ingenious marketing idea and amazing credit to these featured artisans who’ve created some amazing fashions from an improbable material.

A Swedish Farm Boy

Erik Johansson. He was born in Sweden and was raised on a farm with his two sisters.

I like to think that I can spot good artists and those whom think a little different from mainstream brainards. I am not stating that mainstream thinking is bad, but in my opinion it is a bit boring at times. Today I “spotted” Erik Johansson’s work. I like the fact that he has combined technology with old school techniques of artistry. I’m also enamored with his crazy perspective of occurrence and standard scenes.

Like many youngsters today, he became a computer gamer as a child and would often immerse himself in “other worlds” online. When a digital camera fell into his hands as a 15 year birthday present he found a new obsession which, coupled with his love of drawing, became what you see featured here; an artist of illusions. He continued on with computer studies at University and is now a full-time commissioned artist who has worked with the likes of Microsoft, Google, and IKEA. Erik now resides in Berlin, Germany.

He mentions that music inspires him significantly and listens to such artists as; M83, Miami Horror,Cold Play, Justice, SebastiAn, Daft Punk, Portishead, White Stripes, and Fleet Foxes. For many artists music ignites a thought, a view, or an idea, perhaps even a strange feeling that needs a way to be expressed. Erik’s imagery could encourage one to think broader and wonder into the world of “what if’s”. Have a gander and see what it leads you to discover….
