Georgiana Chapman along with partner Keren Craig launched the Marchesa fashion brand in 2004.

Marchesa markets to a high end womenswear clientele and has been worn by a number of famous customers such as Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry, Olivia Wilde and Sandra Bullock. The brand is sold in upper bracket department stores including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and online Net-A-Porter.

The rise to acclaim was not so difficult for Georgina as she was born to a multi-million dollar earning father and later married the famous Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Not to say she is not a very talented designer and an absolutely jaw-dropping beauty, but it helps to have money and influence in your pocket to help you along.

She was born and raised in Richmond, England and attended the Chelsea School of Art and Design. Not long after graduation here rise to fame commenced. Her first collection with Craig brought rave reviews and the Marchesa brand became well known among red carpet posers and award winning actresses. Today Marchesa is considered for such special occasions along with the long time dressing idols like Valentino, Versace, and Chanel. That’s quite an accomplishment for a brand only 9 years of age.

Marchesa collections range from bridal, party dress, to statement Day-Glo. Like so many other designers before her she has realized the importance (and profit) in gaining the average Jo as a customer as well. Georgina has made the business savvy move of establishing a line of dresses that will be sold in the middle market via JCPenney. Pearl by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa will be exclusively sold at JCPenney. The line features affordable special-occasion dresses ranging from $70.00 to $100.00. The name “Pearl” comes from her daughters middle name (India Pearl Weinstein). The collection will be distributed as a 15 piece monthly installment of varying looks.

Anton Semenov

Born in Bratsk, Russia this artist may very well blow your mind into tomorrow. Attention to detail couldn’t even begin to fill the gap of his obsessive intricacies and hidden surprises tucked away for those that take the time to stop and … well, smell the detail. His call name is Gloom82.

Anton Semenov  has a very unusual and, yes, gloomy voice with his work. But, true surrealism is just that…unusual and thought provoking. His imagination goes far beyond what many would define as creative…it’s like a dream. He lays out warped and layered subject matter that is somewhat like the walking dead but they have something to say. They aren’t ghosts, but rather entities he creates to communicate something that is very real in our world. It’s your job to figure out what that is. I am not sure if many people out there will be able to do that but I can assure you, it is fun to try.

Semenov works by day in an advertising agency designing things like signs and vehicle ads, etc. By night, he wakes the beast of imagination and his hands take him to places far, far away. A land of creatures that could be frightening but mostly they are somewhat translucent messengers. Anton began playing with computer graphics in a serious manner back in 2007 and before that he played with the traditional classics of pen, paper, and paint. Remember those? Okay, for some of us we didn’t get much further than crayons. For Anton drawing was an escape and a voice. He was asked by someone if he got inspiration from any particular place and he replied that of course he did. He said the world around us is abundant with inspiration if everyone would just try to see it. Anton likes to play guitar for a hobby outside of his painting and digital work. I personally hope he gets to quit his day job and do some work for Hollywood. I’m no fan of horror flicks but I can enjoy some of the Tim Burton stuff…I think the two of them could have some fun!

Bravo Anton Semenov!!!!!

It’s a MAD world!

MAD MEN season 5

I love the imagery (shown below) and how the lighting was used to portray a slightly retro and ardently intriguing emotion on the cast. I only wish AMC would have credited the photographer. Also, Janie Bryant deserves a shout out for her thoughtful and accurate execution of costume design and presentation. I have no idea why I love this show…at times it just seems like I’m in the room of the actors but they are people I know and it’s just a day in the life…I guess that is why it is so good…it feels so real.

Who is your favorite?

Joan…”I am a sex bomb and I am not afraid to light the cord.”

Peggy…”I am pensive…but I know I am smart, perhaps smarter than YOU…cool under pressure.”

Roger…”I hate getting old and the new turks piss me off…I’m going on a come back tour.”

Don...”I’m suave’ and I’m cool…a liar under it all but I have a plan.. I am ‘THE DON’.”

Peter..”I know I’m a little prick. I am not to be trusted. I am intimidated by my wife’s family, and I will stab you and my momma in the back to get what I want.”

Betty…”Inside I know I am emotionally unbalanced and I wish I could have married my daddy..wait, ARE you my daddy?”

Lane…”Well ‘ole chap, there’s no mystery here…I’m British..and that’s all you need to know.”

LISBETH

Lisbeth Salander …. The  Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

I strongly recommend that you read this trilogy by Stieg Larsson. Even if you don’t consider yourself an avid reader these books will keep you totally captured in a mysterious crime story and the disturbing yet exciting world of Lisbeth Salander. Each book builds from the previous; each is frightening, sexy, morose, and nail bitingly intense. Take my word and the word of 50 million others who’ve been spellbound by this saga..you won’t believe how FIERCE this story is! Read on…

The story is set in Stockholm and the plot is gripping…. Mikhail Blömkvist is a journalist hired by a millionaire, Mr. Henrik Vangar, who wants to finally know what happened to his great-niece, Harriet, who disappeared 40 years ago. Soon Mikhail discovers her disappearance is not a single event, but rather linked to series of gruesome murders. He now crosses paths with Lisbeth Salander, a young computer hacker, an asocial punk and a young woman driven by her vindictiveness. The novels have been Swedish produced movies  ( Niels Arden Oplev directed the first and Daniel Alfredson directed the latter 2). I’ve seen them all. Hollywood has some big shoes to fill because these productions are authentic, well-edited, well cast, and BELIEVABLE (something Hollywood has trouble with at times). If you don’t mind reading subtitles you should definitely watch these. PLEASE read the books first..movies can never capture the imaginative and detailed prose of a narrative. You become very intimate with Lisbeth and her Mikhail Blömkvist (I won’t tell anymore than that).

Above is Noomi Rapace [the original Dragon Girl]. She is on her way to making a mark in Hollywood as she will be in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with Robert Downey Jr.  When asked if it bothers her that Hollywood is remaking the film, she replied, ” I let things go..don’t look into the past. I’ve done my part”. Her depiction of Salander was so innate and true that I have a hard time seeing her “normal”..she BECAME Lisbeth Salander.

Pictured below is Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. Can she match or exceed Noomi? I worry that Rooney was made a little tooooo ugly and she is a little tooooo tiny of a person to be believable in the scenes where strength comes into play. But she has some help with an all-star cast;  the vigorous and handsome Daniel Craig as Mikhail Blömkvist, Christopher Plummer as Henrik Vangar, and Robin Wright as Erika Berger.

Do yourself a favor and be informed, the fashion fallout from this film will be huge. It’s already happening. Take H&M for example: Trish Summerville, who created the outfits worn by the character Lisbeth Salander has created a new line based on that look. “Gothy and Gritty” they call it and it’s going to hit 175 stores worldwide Dec. 14, a week before the movie’s release date.

As for the soundtrack, you will see Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails working a film score with Atticus Ross as he did in David Fincher’s previous hit, The Social Network.  Led Zepplin’s “immigrant song” will be an opening feature which was recorded by Reznor and Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
