My MOM’s 85th Mother’s Day

Back in 1803 you would NEVER hear of someone living to be 85! But now we live a much longer life- thanks to medicine, doctors, researchers, and psychiatrists! (smile).

My MOM is 85! My DAD lived to be 90! I feel I could drink, smoke, cuss, and pick fights at poker games and still probably live waayyyy longer than most folks; thanks to my heritage. This past weekend my sister, brother, and I took the mom to the lake and had an absolute BLAST! My kids tube’d and knee boarded and laughed (and argued…hey, typical teenagers do that). It was as if every minute was a movie. We seemed to know that these moments were very special and that we would look back on them with wonderful nostalgia. You never know when you will spend that “last” Christmas, “last” Mother’s Day, or “last” DAY with your beloved ones.If you can remember to treat special times as if they might very well be the last…your experience will jump to “amplify”. Memories are all we truly take with us when we leave this earthly plane. I am so thankful for the memories that were made this past weekend.

I Love You Mom!

Lessons from the ‘Furries’…

They don’t know prejudice unless we teach them what it is.

They don’t know fear unless we teach them to be afraid.

They don’t know limitations unless we box them in.

Today, let’s take a few lessons from the ‘Furries’ of the world;                                                                  Forgive others’ mistakes, show love and happiness, and accept those who look/act different from you.

Pet Respect

My pets have always been my sunshine on a crappy day. The welcome home from an office filled with demands and people I didn’t really like. My alarm clock of cheeky kisses instead of a blaring beep to pierce the wonderful early morning silence. Hugs when a partner cracked my heart. They filled my life with that something something that we often feel is missing.

Oftentimes I feel guilt about how I have treated my past pets. The dog I left behind to go to college. The horse I sold to buy a car and date boys. The fish I neglected until it died. The dog I sold to move overseas.

Our pets are more than fixtures for our homes, more than something to own; they are FAMILY. We are their WORLD. Give them the love and respect they deserve and be their LIFE PARTNER. Owning a pet is a big responsibility…so don’t own one unless you can be responsible for it. And most of all…be the sunshine in HIS/HER day sometimes. . .

Sometimes Love Can Last

Love is

Butterflies in your stomach.

Trembling knees and faint breath.

Daydreams and wistful longings.

Love is

Patient, kind and supportive.

Trust.

Faith.

Love becomes

Comfort.

Friends.

Eternal.

Sometimes Love Can Last.

Happy Love Day Everyone.

My Mom’s Poem

“The Journey”

A journey is not a trip.

A journey is not a vacation.

A journey is not departing toward a pre-planned destination.

A journey is life itself.

We each have a journey as unique, private, and personal as our toothbrush.

With a definite beginning and certain ending.

The journey is constant-though it ebbs and flows, comforts and bruises, exalts and discourages. Amazingly, one may reclaim, relive and retrieve bits and pieces of the journey at any time.

Therein lies the blessing, the reward-or perhaps the curse. The marvelous miracle of memory can return

us to pleasant places or to times best forgotten; recall a long-lost thrill to make us smile again.

It is as easy as pressing “enter” on a computer keyboard and in varying degrees, is available to any of us. I know. I hear my 90 year old husband suddenly recall a happy incident from the cob webs of years past. Though often he cannot recall what he had for lunch the past hour.

Test that memory button often, as long as the journey lasts. For us to ponder an important question:

Does the person create the journey – or does the journey create the person?

Oh God My Heart Doth Yearn

Oh Father, teach me to be STILL..to hear the wonder of the wind when she whispers for her beauty is often subtle.

Oh Father give me the words when others need my help for I feel I am inadequate to teach your blessed gifts.

And Father, the world makes me so busy I can barely find time to sleep…give me discipline for communion, after all you are all that truly matters.

Father, you are the air from which I breathe, the sun under which I bask, and the stone that supports my feet. Without you life would only be a mist. Embrace me Father and push me forward, for I want to be with you…my soul submits it’s plea…my soul submits it’s love. Always in You, Isa.
